A 10 kilometre long stretch of road passing through dense forests of Billawar and Bani has been left out as it is, by the agencies working on the road project of Billawar – Taggar – Bani. Strangely enough the work on this road is going on for nearly three decades. The road, otherwise, is incomplete and a population of nearly sixty thousand people is subjected to undergo great difficulties. It is a strategic road connected with Billawar sub-division providing direct link to Dhar Road leading to Northern Command Headquarters in Udhampur from Pathankot side and the other from Basholi- Bani- Bahadarwah – Doda Defence road side.
Not only this, the new Bani and Jammu winter road link via Billawar was going to save a distance of 53 kms. Remotest areas of Kathua district very often remain neglected in the basic areas of road connectivity and it is strange that two to three decades even are not found sufficient enough to complete the Bani- Taggar road . Who cares as with the completion of the road, new vistas of tourism potential could successfully open up like in Chew, Deri Galla, Khundar etc. Large beautiful meadows with lush green Deodar trees dot these areas but because of no road connectivity they continue to remain unexplored and not developed as tourist destinations. There must surely be certain handicaps and problems encountered somewhere in the construction of this vital road link which must be looked into and addressed as sufficient time has already been spent on the said road project.
