IPS, KAS officers, 4 docs, 2 yatris among 126 +ve

JAMMU, Aug 23: A Junior Engineer in the Power Development Department (PDD) hailing from Greater Kailash died of COVID-19 in the Government Medical College (GMC) here today while 126 fresh cases were reported from the Jammu region including an IPS officer in the rank of SSP, one KAS officer posted in Education Department, four doctors, two more pilgrims of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji shrine hailing from Madhya Pradesh, four persons of a family from Katra, one Sanitary Inspector of Katra Municipality, seven members of two families including two infants from Raya Suchaini, a High Court Advocate in Samba and two more employees of J&K Board of School Education (BOSE) while 109 persons were treated and discharged from various COVID hospitals of the region after testing negative.
A 53-year-old JE of the PDD, a resident of Greater Kailash, who was COVID positive and suffering from Type 2 diabetes mellitus, Community Acquired Pneumonia and Shock, died in the GMC Jammu this morning after remaining on ventilator for some time, GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said, adding that his body was packed as per the COVID protocol. He was cremated at Shastri Nagar cremation ground with limited family members allowed to attend last rites.
Four more Corona related deaths were reported from Kargil district in the Union Territory of Ladakh including a woman taking UT’s COVID casualties to 23 including seven in Leh and 16 in Kargil.
Ladakh also reported 69 new Corona cases today-53 in Leh and 16 in Kargil taking total cases to 2279 and active to 765.
With the death of PDD Junior Engineer, Jammu region’s Corona tally today went up to 47, the highest being 32 in Jammu district, three each in Rajouri and Poonch districts, two each in Udhampur, Samba and Doda districts and one each in Kathua, Ramban and Kishtwar districts.
An IPS officer posted in Rajouri district today tested positive for the virus. He became second district police chief to test positive in Jammu region. The Deputy Commissioner Rajouri has tested negative. A KAS officer from Darhal in Rajouri district posted as Joint Director in the Education Department also tested positive.
A total of 12 persons including five travelers today reported positive in Rajouri district.
Of four doctors who reported positive for Coronavirus today, one each were Post Graduate (PG) student and an Intern in the GMC Jammu while two others hailed from Battal Ballian in Udhampur district and Roop Nagar in Jammu.
Two more employees from BOSE office in Rehari Colony including one in the ministerial staff and another a driver have tested positive for the virus taking number of total positives to three. Four persons from Gurha Morh, three from Gangyal and two from Bakshi Nagar have also tested positive.
Jammu district reported a total of 60 new cases, 38 with no travel history.
Other positives of Jammu district include 66-year-old man from Shiv Nagar, a youth from Talab Tillo, 58-year-old man from Digiana, 37-year-old man from Bahu Fort, middle-aged man from Tawi Vihar, an old woman from Durga Nagar, a youth from Pir Mitha, 44-year-old man from Kaluchak, 38-year-old woman from Arnia, middle-aged man from Talab Tillo, woman from Bishnah, youth from Sidhra and Kunjwani, middle-aged man from Gole Gujral, 39-year-old from Gandhi Nagar and 50-year-old from RS Pura.
Fifteen persons today tested positive for COVID-19 in Samba district, SSP Samba Shakti Pathak told the Excelsior.
They include four members of one family and three from another at Raya Suchaini in Vijaypur tehsil of Samba district, Pathak said, adding all of them were contacts of positive persons. They include a four-year-old girl, one nine-year-old boy, four women and one male student.
Other positives of Samba district include an Advocatte of High Court hailing from Randhawa Colony Vijaypur, two BSF jawans and a police constable.
Twelve positive cases were today reported from Kathua district.
Of them, two were police personnel from the District Police Lines (DPL) and two residents of Keerian Gandyal. Six others were contacts of positive persons and two travelers, Deputy Commissioner Kathua OP Bhagat said.
Nine fresh cases were today reported from Poonch district. Five of them belonged to Chandimarh, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said.
A Government teacher, two shopkeepers and two locals, one of them a five-year-old female baby tested positive for Coronavirus in Chandimarh Poonch. Four other positives of the district were travelers.
Nine persons reported positive for the virus in Udhampur district.
Two positives of Udhampur district were residents of Uttar Pradesh who work as labourers in Udhampur while third one was a CRPF jawan. A 37-year-old man from Ramnagar who had travel history of Arunachal Pradesh also tested positive in the district. Other positives were travelers.
In Reasi district, seven new Corona cases were reported today including a scribe, his wife and two daughters. The scribe was symptomatic and was tested for the virus along with family.
Two pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji shrine from Madhya Pradesh were tested for the virus as per the protocol for outsiders before being allowed to proceed for the yatra through Rapid Antigen Testing. They tested positive and were shifted to COVID facility. A Sanitary Inspector of Katra Municipality hailing from Ward No. 10 also tested positive today.
Two persons each tested positive for the virus in Doda and Ramban districts.
The Ramban positives belonged to Magerkot Ukheral and Batote and were already admitted in the GMC Jammu for treatment, CMO Ramban Mohammad Fareed Bhat said.
Of two positives in Doda, one was contact of a Corona patient while other was tested during random sampling.
Kishtwar district didn’t report any Corona case today.
A total of 109 Corona patients were today discharged from various COVID hospitals of the region after testing negative for the virus.
Maximum of 71 patients were discharged in Jammu district, 16 in Kathua, 13 Poonch, five Udhampur, two Reasi and one each in Ramban and Doda districts.
With today’s positive cases, Jammu region’s Corona tally has reached 7120 and active cases to 1471 as 5602 patients have been treated and discharged while there have been 47 casualties.
