UDHAMPUR, Aug 26: Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Udhampur today alleged no transparency in fixing the royalty rates thus causing problems to contractors and general public in getting minor mineral at genuine rates.
While addressing a press conference under the banner of ACCI, here today, the MES and PWD Contractors alleged that the Government was responsible for sharp hike in sand and other building material
“Charging Rs 5 per square feet for crusher made sand and gravels is unfair as the Government rate for riverbed raw material is Rs 25 per metric ton, which means more than four times higher rates are being collected,” said Ravi Malguria, President ACCI Udhampur.
He further said that as per directions of Supreme Court of India and High Court, the rates are fixed by the rate fixation committee of district administration but on this issue, no cognizance has been taken by the administration for high rates of sand and other building material.
“Unprecedented rise in cost of sand and other building material is severely affecting common masses also, who were planning to construct a house while the contractors, who have quoted rates of works according to earlier prices, are also in a state of lurch,” said the Chamber president and appealed the district administration to look into the matter and fix the rates as per directions of the Supreme Court so that common masses may get a relief.
