Confederation organizes virtual meeting of women

JAMMU, Aug 30: All India Confederation of SC, ST and OBC Organisations organized a virtual meeting of its women members.
Gitanjali Baruah, National Women President of the Confederation was chief guest while Renu Kumari, State President Jharkhand was the guest of honour on this occasion and the meeting was presided over by R.K Kalsotra, J&K Confederation president.
Theme of the meeting was ‘Women Empowerment and Constitutional Rights’ wherein the issues highlighted were caste disparities in society, violence towards women, lack of support from family in case of atrocities and cases of women rights under threat.
Women in the meeting stressed upon the need to remain united to safeguard the Constitution which gives them equal rights.
Gitanjali Baruah said: “We all need to be aware about our rights which are enshrined in our Constitution.”
She claimed that patriarchy and misogyny has been practiced by our society.
Renu Kumari urged upon the importance of need to study Constitutional rights.
She encouraged women to take the charge and join the movement against the people and institutions which are for dilution of Constitution of India.
R.K Kalsotra said in order to safeguard the rights of vulnerable sections, “We all have to come together. In order to expose the perpetrators of caste based atrocities, we need to come together. In this connection, the Confederation has been conducting virtual meetings all over the UT to make people aware about the constitutional rights.”
Others who spoke in the meeting were Neelam Kumari, Waheeda Akhtar, Anu Devi, Renu Rani, Jarmila Devi, Suraiya Akhtar, Gita Devi, Shehnaz Tubasm, A.A Khatana, Alekh Malik and S Karuppaiah.
