New business rules another onslaught on democratic rights: Yaseen

JAMMU, Aug 31: Chairman, People’s Democratic Front (PDF), Hakeem Yaseen has flayed Central Government for notifying new rules for allocation of powers and Government business between legislature, LG of the Union Territory and Centre notified.
Terming the new rules as totally flawed and an onslaught on the soul of democracy, Yaseen in a statement issued today said these rules would undermine the constitutional and democratic authorities of the state legislature, whenever in place.
Yaseen said that new rules notified by the Center to allocate powers between executive, State legislature and the LG of J&K UT would divest the elected public representatives of their constitutional and democratic powers and make them redundant.
“Under the new rules, most of the powers of legislators have been vested with the LG whereas Center has extended its tentacles even over the internal administrative authority of the UT Government, “Yaseen said while terming the new move of the Central Government as flawed and a sinister game plan to convert the erstwhile J&K State into a colony.
The PDF chairman said that the people of J&K were much concerned and apprehensive about the Central Government’s proposed plans to undermine the special identity and status of J&K, especially after August 5 last year when Article 370 and 35-A were unilaterally and unconstitutionally scraped in a sudden swoop.
He stressed upon the Central Government to desist from playing with the sentiments of the people of J&K as it would serve no purpose and will only cause further alienation and disengagement. “It would be in the overall interest of the country to address socio-political aspirations of the people,” Yaseen maintained while urging for restoration of political process and democratically elected Government in J&K.
