Jammu Heritage Society holds meet

JAMMU, Sept 3: Jammu Heritage Society held a meeting under the chairmanship of its President Bhuvneshwar Gandotra.
In the meeting, the situation arisen due to COVID-19 pandemic was discussed among the members present including Ajesh Rohmetra General Secretary, Sanjeev Kalra Vice President, Baldev Khullar Ex-President, Vinod Malhotra senior member and other executive members.
It was suggested that to improve the economy, the heritage and religious tourism should be promoted in a big way and all the forts of Jammu Region should be renovated on war footing and Fort Tourism be promoted on the pattern of Rajasthan Tourism.
Bhuvneshwar Gandotra expressed concern over the delayed action on the part of the Government to preserve the prestigious Mubarak Mandi–the erstwhile seat of Dogra Maharaja rulers. It was also impressed upon that the outer wall of the Mubarak Mandi facing the river tawi be illuminated for which project has already been approved.
Gandotra and the members of the society expressed their sincere thanks to the Union Cabinet for making Dogri as one of the official languages and also to MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh for promotion of Mansar Lake. The aquatic life of Mansar Lake is in danger as reported by the Pollution Control Board and remedial steps be taken on war footing. The society requested the Union Cabinet Minister Dr Jitendra Singh to get a Rail Coach Factory sanctioned for Kathua which will boost the economy in a big way besides generate job avenues.
Gandotra further said that with the railways reaching Kashmir by 2023 and the express road corridor getting completed connecting Delhi to Katra via Amritsar will effect the Jammu region in a big way and there is an urgency in developing Jammu as an Independent Tourist Destination in a big way.
It was suggested that the Mansar Circuit, Mantalai Circuit, Suchetgarh Border Tourism, Gharana Wetland, pending projects of Artificial Lake and Ropeways be expedited.
“Musical Fountain project should also be completed on time bound basis. The famous temples of Jammu mainly Raghunath Temple, Ranberashwar Temle, Jamvant Guffa and Bahu Fort Mata Kali Temple should also be showcased on print and electronic media besides Lakhanpur Barrier–the entry point to Jammu should be developed on modern lines having food points, petrol pump, drive in food joints, fountains, view points and recreation centers”, Gandotra added.
