Declare Punjabi also as official language in J&K: Manjit

SAMBA, Sept 3: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) provincial president and former Minister Manjit Singh today appealed to the Government of India to declare Punjabi language as one of the official languages of Jammu and Kashmir.
Expressing his anguish over the negligence of the language, the former Minister Manjit Singh said that the Government has neglected a large section of society Punjabi speaking people in Jammu, Samba, Kathua and parts of Kashmir Valley of the Union Territory with its decision of not including Punjab as one among the official languages.
“Punjabi language remained the official language of J&K under Maharaja Ranjeet Singh and it was taught in educational institutions. The present Government should have regarded the contribution of Punjabi people and included it as one of the official languages,” Manjit Singh said.
He appealed the Government of India and Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to declare Punjabi as one of the official languages in J&K and end discrimination with Punjabi speaking people.
