SIF for inclusion of Punjabi as official language

JAMMU, Sept 4: All J&K PoJK Sharnarthi Intellectual Forum (SIF) has expressed its serious concern over non inclusion of Punjabi language in the official languages of J&K.
The Forum in its meeting here, today held under the chairmanship of Amrik Singh its president which was also addressed by its general secretary, Surjit Singh said Punjabi is over 400 years old language and Dogri and other languages have taken birth from it.
The Forum condemned the step motherly treatment meted out to Punjabi speaking people. It said that the ancient sofis and saints scripts are in Punjabi while sacred Guru Granth Sahab is also in Punjabi. Even the scripts of various Bhagats are noted down in Punjabi although they do not belong to Sikh religion.
The Forum leaders said in the Northern parts of India also the mother tongue is Punjabi. The meeting urged the Union Government to reconsider their decision and include Punjabi as one of the official languages in J&K like other five languages which were earlier recognized by GoI.
In this regard the Forum delegation called on chairman of J&K Apni Party in presence of Manjit Singh its provincial president and submitted a memorandum to him. The delegation also apprised him of refugees’ problems.
