Srinagar, Sept 5: Gujjar Bakerwal Youth Conference (GBYC) today demanded inclusion of Gojri language in the list of official languages of Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory.
Scores of youth associated with the GBYC protested against what they called as the indifference of the consecutive governments regarding Gojri language and said that they are being ignored by the administration.
“Like other languages have been added in the list of official languages, we want our language which is Gojri to be included in the list,” they said.
They said that their community has the second largest population in J&K and that they are being constantly subjected to bias due to which their community is suffering.
The GBYC said that they impress upon the Government to address their demand otherwise they will be forced to continue their protest until their demands are fulfilled.
“We were forced to come here amid pandemic, it is all because the government has been ignoring us all the while; at the same, we state that if our demands are not met, we will continue to protest,” they said.
Further, they said that the scholarships in the favour of youth studying in colleges and schools have not been released yet by the concerned department.
“We want to request the government to do the needful in this regard as well and do not compel the students to come out on roads despite the spread of COVID-19,” they said.
