LPG distributors to observe token strike today

JAMMU, Sept 6: The LPG distributors of Jammu province will go on one-day token strike tomorrow over their alleged harassment by the Crime Branch of J&K Police.
The decision to go on the strike was taken by All LPG Distributors’ Association, Jammu province in its meeting held today.
All LPG distributors of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation participated in the meeting during which they unanimously decided that in view of unfair harassment of the dealership by the Crime Branch of J&K Police with regard to release of Prime Minister Ujwala Yogna (PMUY) free LPG connections, they will observe one-day token strike by stopping all operations, refills and distributions on Monday.
A spokesman of the distributors’ body disclosed that despite strictly following the PMO and Oil Companies’ guidelines in release of PMUY connections, the Crime Branch has been harassing the dealers repeatedly without any reason thereby affecting their routine supplies to the consumers, especially during these difficult times of COVID-19.
He informed that a memorandum regarding the proposed token strike has been duly delivered to the oil companies, Food and Supply Department and other concerned agencies, but no response has been received and as such they are forced to take this extreme step to highlight their grievances.
“If a suitable response and redressal is not received from the administration and Crime Branch, we shall be forced to go on indefinite strike from next week,” the spokesman added.
