UDHAMPUR, Sept 7: The Government Treasury at remote Latti Tehsil headquarters in Dudu Sub Division is lying headless for the last over two years.
Interestingly, against the sanctioned strength of 9 staff members, including one Treasury Officer /Assistant Treasury Officer, one Accountant, two Accounts Assistants, one Cahsier and two Class- IV employees, just two orderlies are running the affairs of the Govt Treasury at Latti Tehsil.
More than two dozen Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) of the Dudu Sub Division are drawing salary of the employees and bills from Chenanri Treasury which is nearly 80 kms from Dudu and 56 kms from Latti tehsil headquarters.
Sarpanch Latti and chairman, Latti Development Committee, Kastulri Lal Gupta said that a delegation of about 6-7 Sarpanches of Latti and Dudu area met the Director General Accounts and Treasuries during March this yerar and once during last year but only received assurances. They also met Advisor Farooq Khan and once to Mr Ganai but the matter remained unresolved. No body bothered to fill up the vacant posts. Even DC Udhampur is aware of the situation. He said this Treasury was sanctioned during 1988-89 by the then Finance Minister, Abdul Rahim Rather on the popular public demand, but at present this Treasury has been made defunct by the system in J&K. The LDC sought intervention of Lt Governor M K Sinha into the matter.
