Rare hip surgery done successfully at IVY Hospital Amritsar

JAMMU, Sept 8: In a significant development, a 22-year old patient was operated successfully for Hip salvage surgery at IVY Amritsar.
Briefing about the case, Dr Summit Mahajan, Director Orthopaedics, informed that Sachin from Fazilka had condition of hypopituitarism, because of which his grow plate didn’t fuse. The condition called as Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) occurs only at adolescent age. The patient condition become rarer as this condition occurs at 22 years. He was not able to stand and bear weight on his affected left lower limb for last 3 months.
Since it was a demanding surgery and requires expertise, his surgery was denied by all major hospitals in and around his home town. Patient had taken date for surgery from Delhi in March but due to COVID scenario, couldn’t go there. He was referred to Dr Summit Mahajan at IVY hospital, Amritsar. His family members were counseled and given the assurance for his successful surgery. Patient was made to stand with the help of walker, next day after the surgery and was discharged within 2 days.
