SKUAST-J organizes webinar on ‘Antibiotics Resistance in Livestock’

JAMMU, Sept 11: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) in collaboration with Association of Mastitis organizes one day international webinar on an internationally recognized problem ‘Antibiotics resistance: A Menace in management of Mastitis’.
Prof. J.P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-J and Prof. (Dr.) A.K Srivastava, Member, ASRB, New Delhi and President, Association of Mastitis were among the special guests in the webinar.
While deliberating during the webinar, Prof. J.P Sharma highlighted the provisions of Atmanirbhar Bharat Scheme such as Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund and Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and discussed the role of government schemes in uplifting the livestock economy in India.
While presenting closing remarks, Prof. (Dr.) A.K Srivastava highlighted the cross-breeding programme of India and shared research findings showing direct correlation between high milk yielding animals and mastitis. Further, he considered animal producing food to be the reason of anti-microbial resistance, as antibiotics use is more in livestock sector as compared to humans in the country.
He advocated rational use of antibiotics, especially in large animal farms which are using higher doses as compared to small animals.
Col. Prof. (Dr.) A.K. Gahlot, Former Vice Chancellor, Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Bikaner also shared his experiences of managing mastitis at a farm level and recommended on-farm culture facilities at least in institutional farms.
Prof. Nino Macesic, University of Zagreb, Croatia delivered a detailed web lecture on ‘Judicious use of antibiotics in the management of mastitis in dairy animals’ and discussed the issues such as treatment of subclinical mastitis, clinical mastitis , recommended antibiotics along with appropriate number of doses and blanket and selective dry cow therapies etc.
Dr. Neelesh Sharma carried out the proceedings along with Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma.
Other executive members of Association of Mastitis Dr. S.K Maiti, Dr. Pavan Kumar and Dr. GovindYadav also actively managed the event.
More than 1000 participants from all over the world attended the webinar and clarify their queries regarding the subject.
