BSNL office resumes work after one week in Srinagar

SRINAGAR : The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) office, including main collection center, reopened on Monday after remaining closed for a week due to COVID-19 pandemic.
However, a private agent was selling BSNL and other SIM and depositing the bill of customers after charging them Rs 10 extra during the period when the office remained closed.
The BSNL office in Srinagar was closed on September 7 after some employees tested positive for coronavirus. This was the second time the BSNL main office, at Exchange road, near here was closed after some employees tested positive last month.
Large number of customers were seen depositing their mobile, landline and broadband bills today. It was also a busy time for security forces who were seen frisking people before allowing them to enter the office complex.
We were visiting the BSNL office almost daily last week only to return home without depositing our bills due to suspension of work, said Mohammad Yousuf.
There was also some confusion about my telephone bill amount which was also sorted out today, he said.
Customers were being told by security forces at the main gate that office has been closed. However, they were informing customers that they donot know reasons behind the closure of the office.
The office has reopened today after the COVID-19 positive employees tested negative.
However, a private agent of the BSNL was seen issuing SIM cards to people at a distance from the BSNL office during this period. Besides he was also depositing bills after charging Rs 10 extra.
