JAMMU, Sept 16: All Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC) has appealed to the Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to announce relaxation in joining of duties to PM package employees or arrange separate accommodation for them to protect them from COVID- 19 pandemic as social distancing cannot be maintained in shared accommodations.
In a statement issued to media APMCC chairman, Vinod Pandit has sought relaxation for the PM package employees from rejoining their duties after September 21, particularly teachers saying most of the employees were either living in shared accommodation or living in rented accommodations where the landlords were apprehensive of infection and discouraging them to return.
Pandit said that in Mattan Camp, four to six families were sharing single kitchen and employees’ families were living with them thus creating a complete chaotic situation in these tough times adding either they should be allotted separate accommodation or relaxation given to them for rejoining their duties to prevent spread of pandemic among the KP migrants.
Advocate Arun Kandroo, general secretary said that Lt Governor must visit these places to know the situation first hand adding forcing these employees to rejoin and then live in such congested conditions can lead to a huge catastrophe putting the lives of these employees, their families and students in danger.
King C Bharati, national spokesperson, APMCC said that it was the duty of the Government to protect the migrant employees first as the State was passing through a tough situation where COVID positive cases were increasing and more deaths taking place due to fast spreading COVID pandemic.
Bharati said that since it was not possible for the Government to arrange the accommodation for more than three thousand employees in short span of time it was advisable to give them exemption from rejoining their duties at this moment.
