Memorandum to LG for including Punjabi in official languages

JAMMU, Sept 19: Punjabi speaking people of Ramgarh and Sikh Sangat today submitted a memorandum to J&K Lieutenant Governor for including Punjabi in the list of official languages of J&K.
A large number of Punjabi speaking people of Ramgarh gathered at Ramgarh and staged a protest demonstration in favour of their demand and later on send a memorandum in this regard to the LG through the Tehsildar and district administration Samba.
They claimed that Punjabi language is spoken by many people in J&K and the language has a relation with J&K since the times of Maharaha Ghulab Singh.
They asked that while English, Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri and Dogri languages have been included in the list of official languages of J&K why Punjabi was ignored.
“Apart from the Sikh community many other people also speak Punjabi,” they maintained.
