SMC demolishes illegal structures

Srinagar, Sept 22: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has acted against the violators demolished structures that have been raised in total violation of rules and permissions granted in Srinagar city.
On receiving inputs, Parvaiz Ahmad Qadri, Deputy Mayor, Srinagar (Acting Mayor, Srinagar) personally along with Zonal Enforcement Officer of SMC and concerned Ward staff and other demolition squads of SMC visited Habib Colony Parraypora and Nundresh Colony Bemina Srinagar, where an unauthorized construction was carried out by one Danish Malik.
“It was revealed on the spot that building permission for construction of a two-storied residential house with attic has been granted in favour of the permittee according to sanctioned building permission,” SMC officials said.
They said that the said person has converted the residential permission into a commercial structure in gross violation of the set procedure and norms.
After the inspection, demolition drive was carried out in the supervision of the SMC officials with immediate razing of tin walling on spot.
On the other side, the SMC also demolished a structure in Baghat area of Srinagar after the permittee was trying to convert the residential structure into a commercial one.
Chief Enforcement Officer, SMC Syed Nisar told Excelsior that under-construction building was demolished after it was found that the construction is being carried out a total violation of rules and regulations.
He said that the permission was given for the construction of residential structure; however, after the residents complained that the permittee was trying to construct a commercial building.
“After that, the permission was kept in abeyance, however, he has resumed the work in total violation and that’s why we took action as per law,” he said.
The SMC Mayor has expressed his displeasure over it and directed the concerned officers to demolish the unauthorized structure immediately.
SMC officials said that such demolitions shall continue in future as well in Srinagar city if noticed anywhere by anybody irrespective of status/ influence whatsoever will not be allowed to violate the norms of the sanctioned building norms/ rules envisaged under Srinagar Metropolitan Region Master Plan 2035.
