JAMMU, Sept 22: In second incident of airdropping arms by Pakistan using drone, Akhnoor police and Special Forces of Army in wee hours of this morning recovered the consignment from Sohal Khud, located deep inside the border.
SSP Jammu Sridhar Patil said two packets containing two AK assault rifles, three magazines with 90 rounds and a pistol with two magazines and 14 rounds were seized in a joint operation by police and Special Forces of Army from Sohal Khad in Akhnoor tehsil early today.

“We have successfully scuttled the attempt to send weapons to the militants active in Jammu and Kashmir…Dropping weapons from drones is a new technique used by terrorist organizations ,” he told reporters here.
He said it is part of the investigation to identify the terrorist group which is behind dropping of the weapons by drones.
“A case has been registered in connection with the recovery of the weapons and further investigation is on,” Patil said.
He said the security agencies are alive to the threat posed by the use of drones from across the border to drop weapons and “we are tackling it by the use of technology and human intelligence, which played a key role in today’s recovery.”
Besides the arms and ammunition, Patil said packing stuff containing blue thermacol wrapped by adhesive tape with wooden fittings, parachute threat two rolls of about 300 meters length was also recovered.
The SSP said a joint operation was launched after credible information was received about the planned attempt by anti-national elements to smuggle arms into India.
“The search operation was started at various places in Jammu including Sohal Khad, Shamshan Ghat, Punnu Chowk and Sohal Market in Akhnoor sector. While recovering a packet containing arms, a drone sound was heard but due to darkness the same was not visible,” he said.
Patil said the continuous search led to the recovery of another packet of arms and ammunition.
Search parties were led by SDPO Akhnoor Ajay Sharma and SHO Naresh Sharma.
