2 bootleggers held with illicit liquor

SAMBA, Sept 27: Continuing its drive against the menace of illicit trade of liquor, district police Samba arrested two bootleggers and recovered 105 bottles of illicit liquor in two separate incidents in the jurisdiction of Police Stations (PS) of Samba and Bari Brahmana today.
Acting on reliable information regarding transport of illicit liquor towards Ghagwal via NHW Samba, a police party of PS samba laid a strong vehicle checking naka near Diani at NHW Samba and signalled a scooter bearing Registration Number, JK02AC-3351 coming from Samba side to stop. On seeing the naka party, the rider of scooter accelerated the speed and tried to fled away from the spot. But after strong chase, police party of PS Samba apprehended the rider at a few distance.
During checking of the scooter, a total of 48 bottles of JK Desi Whisky of 180 ml each were recovered. The accused person identified as Robert Sotra, S/o Bachan Sotra R/O 88 Dogra Hall, Jammu. He has been arrested on spot and contraband item was also seized.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 259/2020 U/S 48 (a) Excise Act registered at PS Samba and investigation started.
In another similar incident, PS Bari Brahmana received an information regarding the sale of illicit liquor at Kala Gate, Bari Brahmana. Acting swiftly, a Police Party of PS Bari Brahmana rushed to the spot and arrested one person namely Raj Kumar, S/o Narsi Ram, R/O Dasal, Kartholi, Samba who was running a welding shop namely RK Fabricators at Kala Gate, Bari Brahmana and selling illicit liquor to the general public at exorbitant rates to gain illegitimate profit.
During search, a total 57 bottles of JK special Whisky (07 bottle of 250 ml & 50 bottles of 180 ml each) were recovered from the shop.
In this connection, a case FIR No. 219/2020 U/S 50 (a) Excise Act has been registered at PS Bari Brahmana and investigation started.
