JAMMU, Sept 27: All India Backward Classes Federation (AIBCF) Jammu demanded the Government to include a column for OBCs in Census 2021.
In this connection, an awareness camp/meeting was organized at Bishnah Tehsil to awaken the OBC people about the fact that Census of 2021 has no column for OBC. The camp was chaired by Girdhari Lal Sansi. F C Satia (president of the Federation) was also present.
In the meeting, the demand of OBC column in the Census 2021 was made in one voice. All members expressed anguish over the decision of Census of India not to keep a column for OBCS. Members said that it was promised by Minister for Home in 2017 that Census 2021 shall contain a column for OBC population but now the Government has backtracked from its promise.
It was unanimously decided that Federation shall think of the option of boycotting the Census if OBC column is not inserted. F C Satia stated that Govt is boasting of OBC welfare but not ready to carryout counting of OBC people which shows Government is not sincere from within.
R K Chalotra (vice president) stated that Revenue officers in the Tehsils are not showing supportive behavior towards OBC people which is a cause of concern. Most of the tehsildars don’t study the ruling for central OBC certificate and harass the applicants, he added.
Others present in the meeting were Om Kataria, (joint secretary), Balwant Kataria (general secretary), Gulshan Kumar, Mehar Singh, Vijay Prajapati, Billa Verma, Subhash Mehra, Ashok Kumar and Rattan Lal.
