‘One stop solution for teachers, students’

JAMMU, Sept 28: In a proud moment for Jammuites, a general line teacher working in a Government school of Jammu has designed an android app SARAL (Students Accessible Resource And Learning) for Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ).
The app is developed by IT Cell of DSEJ of which the general line teacher Deepak Sharma was a part. He played a key role in technical part of the app like designing and coding. The app is available at Google Play Store as DESJ Online Education for the use of students as well as teachers.
SARAL app is a one stop solution for teachers as well as students. The app has features to conduct online and offline assessments as well as live interactive classes as per academic calendar. It also has a Digital Library where digital text books, reference books, videos, etc are available for view and download.
The app is a golden source for all home classes videos recorded by expert teachers as per syllabus of J&K Board of School Education. Videos can be searched in the app by class and subject. It also has repository of home assignments and activities developed by team as per curriculum.
This app also has section for Directorate of School Education, where links to all of the systems/portal of Directorate of School Education Jammu are available. MHRD Initiatives section of the app has link to all initiatives of MHRD. Most importantly, the app works very well in 2G as well.
Speaking to Excelsior regarding the SARAL app, Deepak Sharma said that he has developed the app using android, Java, Php and My SQL Technologies. The app also uses open platform like Youtube, minty, Googleforms, Google Meet, Zoom, etc.
“With the active cooperation of my colleagues and seniors, I developed the app within 60 days. We had started working on the app in mid June and by mid August, the app was put to use,” Sharma said, adding “Within days of launch, the app already has more than 40,000 downloads.
Sharma said that his past experiences in HCL Technologies, where he gave his precious 10-12 years as a Programmer and Senior Technical Manager before joining as general line teacher in J&K Education Department in the year 2016, came handy for him in developing this app.
He is presently posted at Government Middle School, Kotha Kandyal in Jourian area. Originally belonging to Ghari Bisnah area of Jourian, Deepak Sharma is presently residing in Muthi area of Jammu. He expressed happiness that around 200-250 people are using the app at any point of time and the figure of users is rising with every passing day.
