Include Gojri in schools: Gujjars

JAMMU, Oct 4: The Gujjar and Bakerwal tribal community members today demanded that their language Gojri should be included in the school education system of J&K.
In a meeting of community elders, writers and poets presided over by tribal researcher, Dr Javaid Rahi of Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, the speakers claimed that Gojri is the third largest language of J&K which deserves its inclusion in UT schools so that its presence is felt across J&K as Gujjars and Bakerwals live in both the provinces of the UT.
Welcoming National Educational Policy, Dr Rahi said, Gojri is spoken in all the districts of J&K and it possesses a rich treasure of folk and modern literature.
He informed that demand of Gojri inclusion in J&K schools and creation of posts of plus two Gojri lecturers have been taken up with higher authorities and separate memorandums in this regard have been submitted to Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha; Chief Secretary, B.V.R Subrahmanyam, Principal Secretary Education Department, Dr Asghar Hussan Samoon and Chairman J&K Board of School Education, Prof Veena Pandita.
Rahi also urged the schools to project the demands for Gojri textbooks published by JKBOSE.
Other who spoke on the occasion were Dr. Ishtiaq Misbah, Zulkarnain Chowdhary, M.K Kassana, M.R Chowdhary, Dilshad Chowdhary and others.
