JAMMU, Oct 5: Tractor Union of Jammu under the leadership of its Chairman, Arif Hussain here today staged a protest demonstration against the ban on mining.
Supporting the protest political activist, Partap Singh Jamwal along with Bhanu Partap Singh Goria said the ban has been like a dark cloud covering J&K and bringing a lot of misery to the people.
Jamwal said the ban on mining has largely affected daily livelihood earners who are dependent on mining activities.
“If this ban continues, the affected families will die of starvation as it has affected everyone from labourers and mine owners to transporters,” he maintained adding that there is a need to adopt measures to safeguard the environment but that needs proper plans and assessment of ground realities before imposing the ban.
Assuring to fight the issue till the end, Jamwal said a delegation of the organisation would soon knock the doors of UT administration in this regard.
Earlier, Chairman of the Union had claimed that thousands of labourers and their families engaged in mining have been severely affected by the ban.
