JAMMU, Oct 8: Former minister Mula Ram and DCC Jammu (Rural) president, Hari Singh Chib today lambasted the BJP Government for its decision of empowering the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir administration to impose Property Tax through the Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Municipal Committees in their respective areas.
In a joint statement issued today, Mula Ram and Hari Singh Chib said that the people are already reeling under the financial crunches due to slowdown of economy and this unnecessary and extra property tax will add more burden on them. They added that people do not have even money to arrange two meals and the imposition of property tax seems to be an illogical and illicit decision by the Union Government.
“Instead of these decisions; Govt should take steps to tackle unemployment and upgrade the economic structure of the country in general and the J&K in particular. Covid-19 unprecedented lockdown and mismanagement by the BJP Government has already taken a huge toll on the people,” Mula Ram said.
Hari Singh said since the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, crores of youth have lost their jobs and the same in numbers are unemployed, depressed and stressed and such a step will further add to their miseries. Imposition of Property Tax would further groom the corruption, he added.
Chib appealed to the BJP Government to revoke such anti-people decisions as it is not the appropriate time to introduce such law since people are already facing a very crucial time.
