2 Ward Officers arrested for threatening JCP SMC

Srinagar, Oct 9: Police have arrested two Ward Officers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) for threatening the Joint Commissioner Planning (JCP) of the Corporation.
Based on the complaint that has been filed by the official, the police have registered a case (FIR number 122/2020 under section 353 IPC) yesterday against two Ward Officers who have been identified as Riyaz Ahmad and Irshad Ahmad.
The case has been registered at the Police Station Shaheed Gunj in Srinagar on the complaint of Joint Commissioner, Planning Ghulam Hassan Mir.
It has been learned that Police have arrested both the Ward Officers who have been named in the complaint by the official and both of them are currently lodged at Police Station Shaheed Gunj in Srinagar.
The official has alleged that the duo threatened him of dire consequences if he did not permit them to construct residential structures in Hyderpora which are already in question.
Riyaz Ahmad is constructing his house in Hyderpora and does not possess valid permission from the SMC and was subsequently asking the official to permit him.
Pertinent to mention here, that he has been claiming that he has valid permission from the SMC, however, after the complaints of the locals, the construction was stayed and was termed as violation of building construction rules.
The violation, it has been learned was then inquired by the Joint Commissioner Planning on the directions of the Commissioner, SMC.
