6 vehicles seized for illegal mining

SAMBA, Oct 10: Continuing its drive against illegal mining and illegal transportation of construction material, police today seized six vehicles including one JCB, two dumpers, two tippers and, one tractor in the jurisdiction of Police Stations (PS) of Samba and Vijaypur, which were being used for digging Basanter river bed and for illegal transportation of the construction mineral.
Acting on reliable information, regarding illegal mining at Basanter Nallah, Daboh, a team of PS Samba headed by Inspector, Rajesh Jasrotia rushed to the spot and caught the culprits red handed who were engaged in illegal mining.
A JCB bearing Registration Number UPDT-4490, two dumpers bearing Registration Number, JK02CJ-1841 & JK14E-7787 and tipper bearing Registration Number JK0CD-5134 were seized on the spot and the case, entrusted to Geology and Mining Department, Samba.
While in another similar incident, a police party of PS Vijaypur headed by Inspector Sudhir Sadhotra while performing vehicle checking duty near Mini Bus Stand at Ramgarh road, Vijaypur intercepted a tractor without Registration Number moving towards Ramgarh side. While checking, the vehicle was found laden with construction material (sand). On questioning, the driver of the vehicle failed to produce relevant documents required for transportation of construction material. The accused person was identified as Mohd. Ashraf, S/o Mohd. Sharif of Rakh Barotian, Vijaypur who has been booked under Section 188 IPC and the tractor was also seized. Moreover, a Tipper bearing Registration Number JK02CH-5581 was seized at naka Rakh Barotian, Vijaypur which was later challaned by the officials of District Mineral Department Samba by imposing fine of amount Rs 3300.
It is pertinent to mention here that mining of minerals is banned by the administration but some individuals are still extracting and selling minerals illegally causing huge loss to the State exchequer.
