UP CM asks HC to expedite cases related to POSCO Act

LUCKNOW, Oct 11:
Claiming that the rape cases have come down drastically in the state due to stringent law and prosecution of the criminals, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the Allahabad High court to expedite the pending case of POSCO Act in a faster pace. The CM has asked the HC to give directives to the district and session courts to take up the Posco cases in a priority basis so that the women get justice.
The CM also announced that the Government will observe women security week from October 17 to 25 and will launch special drive during the week, official sources here on Sunday said.
According to the figures, there are over 20,000 cases of rapes and women atrocities pending in the courts even after during the lockdown 1835 cases were expedited and 612 accused were convicted. In the present BJP regime, 5 rapist have been given capital punishment in the state while in 193 cases, the accused were given life term. In 2019, a total of 15,116 cases of women atrocities were disposed off. According to a crime figure of NCRB, UP has topped in punishing the guilty in the crime against women though in 2020 in comparison to 2016, the number of rapes have come down by 42 per cent and in the women kidnapping it has come down by 39 per cent.
