JAMMU, Oct 11: Welfare Society Guru Nanak Nagar (WSGNN) here today expressed resentment against the proposal for imposing Property Tax in J&K.
In a meeting Balwinder Singh, President WSGNN said Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has utterly failed in performing its routine functions like sanitation, street lighting etc.
“The recently installed street lights are out of order and no attention is being paid to replace the same despite complaints,” Singh said, adding that JMC has also not taken any steps towards filling the vacancies of sanitary staff due to which there are garbage dumps in and around the city.
He further said that JMC is already collecting Rs. 100 per month from every household for lifting garbage but the visit of garbage lifting vehicles is getting rare day-by-day.
“Barring few posh places like Gandhi Nagar, Channi Himmat etc, most of the places in city lack basic planning and public infrastructure like gardens footpaths playgrounds etc,” Singh maintained.
He said, throughout Jammu city one may fail to find any proper place for taxi or auto or minibus stand.
“When JMC is not providing such basic services then for what it requires funds from people,” Singh continued adding, the timing of imposing of such taxes is also not proper as the public is already suffering from economic crisis due to COVID pandemic.
