Sir,
Nothwithstanding qualified and trained staff, provision for Mid-Day Meal, free uniform, books and scholarships to meritorious students, enrolment in Govt schools is getting thinner and thinner. A man even with slightest affordable economic sources doesn’t prefer to send his ward in a Govt school. Evidently the wards of only poor masses are destined to join such schools.
Obviously, the department hardly remains concerned over falling standard of these schools. Supervision and inspections, first of all are not done by CEOs/ZEOs, and if at all one does, it is only to check punctuality and attendance. In the phenomenon where dereliction of duty, absenteeism, no transfer policy and favouritism is keeping teachers on attachments and deputations exist, expecting miracles from such schools is like a fool’s paradise. Craze for private institutions to provide quality education to the children is not a choice of parents but a crying compulsion which forces the parents to shift to cities and towns. To activate schooling system and to ensure quality education, a deep study of flaws and failures stand woven therein, needs to be done by the educationists and the department.
Upliftment and development of Govt schools is considered significant in the wake of globalisation in meeting challenges of present day competitions. Practice of honouring best teachers within a zone/tehsil of introduced can enthuse and inspire the teacher community to sweat more as encouragement always does more than punishment.
Yours etc….
