Former Auqaf Islamia Secy dies

JAMMU, Oct 11: Former Secretary Auqaf Islamia Jammu Province under the Department of Haj and Auqaf Jammu and Kashmir and renowned personality among Jammu Gujjars, Chowdhary Abdul Majeed today passed away at his home near Karnala Chak, Jammu after a brief illness.
He is survived with three sons, Sajjad Majeed, Usman Majeed (renowned painter), Tariq Majeed and Tahira Chouhan.
His last rites were performed at Gujjar Basti, Niki Tawi area which was attended by cross section of society.
Born on May 11, 1930 in Jammu, Majeed Chowdhary was the son of renowned Tribal leader of Jammu region Chowdhary Abdul Aziz who was a elected Member of Legislative Council of Parja Saba constituted in 1934-first Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly also known as the Jammu and Kashmir Vidhan Sabha, during Maharaja Hari Singh period. Abdul Majeed was elder son of Ch Aziz who later remained Secretary of Secretary Auqaf Islamia Jammu Province for a long period.
