SRINAGAR, Oct 13: Indian National Congress’s newly appointed in charge of J&K Rajni Patil today said that the people of J&K are facing immense hardships and they are disheartened over what happened in August last year.
Talking to media persons during a press conference, Patil said that the Congress party feels for the people of J&K and will always try to project their issues on a larger platform.
She said that the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5 last year was unilateral and was done illegally.
“People are angry, they feel disheartened; we have been talking to people over last few days, we do feel their pain,” she said.
She added that people are apprehensive about employment, their land rights and so many other issues. “They are fearful that jobs will be given to others; on top of it, there is no 4G internet service which is badly affecting the studies of the children here,” she said.
She also said that it was seen for the first time that a State was downgraded to a UT. “We have seen UTs being upgraded to a level of the state, never have seen a state being downgraded like it was done on August 5,” she said.
She added that people are demanding that the statehood must be restored without any further delay.
She criticised the Central Government over what she called as anti-farmer policies and also took on to the UP Government over its handling of Hathras Rape Case.
“Modi had talked about doubling the income of the farmers, but they are suffering; the slogan of Beti Bahao- Beti Bachao is hallow given the crimes against women that are being committed,” she said.
She said that an atmosphere of polarization is being created in the country in the name of caste, creed and religion. “It was the Congress that raised the slogan of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan and we will put an end to what is happening in the country under the rule of BJP,” she said.
Patil said that the Congress party stands by the people of J&K and will always give voice to their issues.
