5 more Corona casualties in Jammu, many from Filling Stns test positive

JAMMU, Oct 16: Five persons including a woman died of COVID-19 in Jammu region today and 312 persons tested positive, 121 in Jammu district alone, while 381 persons recovered from the virus.
Number of the Corona patients who have defeated the virus in Jammu region has crossed 30,000 while that of active positives has been reduced to 3700 only, the official data revealed. The recovery rate, as per the data, has shown considerable improvement during past over a fortnight.
Sixty six persons tested positive for pathogen in Jammu district during Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT).
They include four from Best Price and Kavita Filling Station, an equal number from SKS Filling Station Nanak Nagar and one each from Anjan Flling Station Patta Borhi, Fair Deal Filling Station Digiana, Jai Durga Filling Station Paloura and Kasturi Lal BPC BC Road.
The Health Department today subjected staff of 47 Filling Stations at different places in Jammu district to COVID testing. A total of 1146 employees were tested and, of them, 12 reported positive for the virus.
The positives from rural areas include nine RS Pura, six Akhnoor, four Pallanwalla, two each Bishnah and Dansal and one in Marh.
Eight CRPF personnel from Bantalab, five members of a family from Jhullaka Mohalla in Jammu City, a couple and their four-year-old female baby from Gandhi Nagar and another couple from Bohri Talab Tillo also tested positive for Coronavirus today.
The GMC Jammu today started new series of biochemical markers for COVID-19 patients in the Department of Biochemistry for Jammu division bringing the GMC Jammu at par with national institutes like PGI Chandigarh and AIIMS New Delhi. The facility was inaugurated by GMC Principal Dr Nasib Chand Digra and Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Administrator in present of Dr AS Bhatia, HoD Department of Biochemistry and Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh and other senior faculty members.
The biomarkers will act as weather forecasters and will be of great help in predicting the outcome of the disease, Dr Bhatia said.
Meanwhile, a 49-year-old man from Bishnah in Jammu district, who was co-morbid and positive for the virus, died in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu where he was admitted since 8th October while an 86-year-old man from Gandhi Nagar, who had no co-morbidity and was suffering from the virus, also died in the same hospital.
A 63-year-old woman from Akhnoor who was admitted in Narayana Hospital yesterday succumbed to COVID-19 and multiple ailments today.
A 77-year-old man from RS Pura, who was co-morbid and positive for the virus, also died at Narayana Hospital while an 85-year-old man from Aghar Jitto in Reasi district, who was positive and had no other ailment, died in the GMC Jammu.
Among 312 positives in Jammu region, 121 cases were reported from Jammu district including 118 locals and three travelers.
With these deaths, Jammu region’s COVID toll has gone up to 450, the highest being 236 in Jammu district followed by 45 Rajouri, 40 Doda, 29 Kathua, 25 Udhampur, 24 Samba, 22 Poonch, 11 each Kishtwar and Ramban and seven in Reasi district.
All 44 positives cases in Poonch district, 31 Kishtwar, 30 Doda, 20 Reasi and eight in Ramban district were locals while, 18 out of 21 positives in Rajouri, three out of four in Udhampur, 13 of 14 in Kathua and 12 of 19 in Samba district were locals. Rest were travelers.
Jammu region now has 34806 Corona cases. Of them, there are only 3700 active positives as 30656 have recovered from the virus while there have been 450 deaths.
Meanwhile, 48 new Corona positive cases were reported today from the Union Territory of Ladakh-40 in Leh and eight in Kargil district taking Corona tally in the UT to 5441.
There were 915 active positive cases in Ladakh while 4461 have recovered from the virus.
There have been 65 COVID casualties in Ladakh, 27 of them in Leh and 38 in Kargil district.
