JAMMU, Oct 20: A boy from Billawar in Kathua district has topped in National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) in the union territory of J&K by securing All India Rank of 139.
The result of NEET was declared few days back by the National Testing Agency. Avikshit Gupta son of Arpana and Anil Gupta of village Mandi, tehsil Billawar in Kathua district topped the prestigious NEET which is considered as the toughest exam, by securing 695 out of 720 marks.
As per the official figures, around 15.97 lakh students were registered for the exams out of which 13.66 lakh appeared in the exam at all-India level. Out of this 7.7 lakh candidates have cleared the test. The NEET exam was conducted in the second week of September with a participation of over 20,000 candidates from J&K.
Talking to Excelsior on his success, Avikshit attributed his success to his parents and teachers, who he said, supported him wholeheartedly in achieving his aim. He said that his parents never created any pressure on him but he always focused towards his aim and worked hard to achieve the same.
Avikshit said that there is no shortcut to crack NEET, one should be regular and committed towards his studies and give at least 9-10 hours a day to the studies. He said coaching classes are not necessary to crack the exam but what one needs is commitment, focused self-study and attention in regular school classes in 11th and 12th standard.
He said regular tests like mock tests conducted by coaching institutes help a lot while preparing for NEET as one can judge itself and come to know where he/she lacks and then prepare himself/herself accordingly.
Avikshit shared that he had secured 1st rank in class 8th board exams in Kathua district while in class 10th and 12th, he secured 95.2 % and 97% marks, respectively. He further informed that he had secured 1st rank in the state in NTSE (National Talent Search Examination) conducted by NCERT.
“I was very much interested in Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects from starting and that is why I decided to pursue with these subjects in class 11 and 12th and appeared in NEET,” he expressed, adding, initially in lower classes he wanted to be a scientist but while coming in higher classes, he started aspiring to be a doctor.
He said there is no hard and fast rule that one should study 10-12 hours to crack NEET. “If one reads for few hours but with concentration, it is enough,” he asserted.
