Fashion designers to unveil their designs at ‘IIFA Rocks’

NEW DELHI, May 24: It will be a star-studded affair at the 13th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards at Singapore, commencing from June 7.
Renowned fashion designers Suneet Varma, Masaba Gupta and Varun Bahl will unveil their special collections during the music-cum-fashion extravaganza ‘IIFA Rocks’ to be held a day before the awards this year.
One of the key events, held since last year as part of the IIFA weekend, ‘IIFA Rocks’ will this year also witness performances by the Music director duo of Vishal-Shekhar, Punjabi pop singer Mika, actresses Neha Dhupia, Gauhar Khan and many other, it was announced here last evening.
‘Grey Goose presents IIFA Rocks’ is a music-cum-fashion extravaganza held annually to showcase leading avant garde Indian designers.
Besides, leading models from India and host nation will grace the ramp along side the musical talent from India.
This year, IIFA rocks, which will be hosted by upcoming actor Ayushman Khurana and Chitrangada Singh, will showcase three talented Indian designers- Masaba, Suneet Varma and Varun Bahl, Mr Sabbas Joseph of the Wizcraft International entertainment, the main organisers of the IIFA said.
The event will witness Masaba’s collection ‘IIFA by Masaba’, a special collection that has been conceptualised and inspired by the colours of IIFA.
A chic fashion wear line with strong Indian elements- the colour palette and imagery of the collection is inspired by the IIFA logo and brand world- the designs in ‘IIFA by Masaba’ would be avant garde drawing inspiration from the Sun.
Speaking on the occasion, Masaba said,”I am glad to be part of IIFA Rocks this year and I am sure it will help me reach out to the diverse set of audiences and cultures.”
“Inspired by IIFA, my collection is a chic fusion wear line with strong Indian elements. It has a youthful vibe and is aimed at the contemporary Indian woman who has a strong sense of style and is modern in her sensibilities yet very rooted to her aesthetics and culture,” the designer added.
Varun Bahl’s collections at the IIFA Rocks have been inspired by the world of Grey Goose while Suneet Verma, whose presence at IIFA rocks marks completion of 25 years in the world of fashion, will unveil his Spring Couture 2012 collection titled ‘The Eternal Lightness of being’.
This is the first time Ayushman and Chitrangada will be hosting an IIFA event and the actress seemed quite excited.
“This is my first time at the IIFAs and I am truly excited to be part of this celebrated Global event. It is amazing to see how IIFAs have talken Indioan cinema to the World over the years and it is only getting bigger every year,” Chitrangada said.
“I will be stepping into the shoes of co-host along with Ayushman for the first time at IIFA Rocks and looking forward to having a good time,” the actress said.
This year’s edition of the IIFA, which is held in Singapore for the second time, the last time being in 2004, will also witness the premiere of Dibakar Banerjee’s much awaited film ‘Shanghai’, featuring the unique cast of Emraan Hashmi, Abhay Deol and kalki Koechin as well as the release of the first look of Kabir Kaushik’s ‘Maximum’, featuring Naseeruddin Shah, Sonu Sood, Neha Dhupia and Hazel Keech in key roles.
The IIFA weekend will commence on June 7 and witness the premiere of ‘Shanghai’, the ‘IIFA Rocks’ event on June 8 and will culminate with the star-studded IIFA awards night on June 9.
