JAMMU, Apr 27: To express their anger over the rise in crimes against women and unchecked incidents of sexual assault, a large number of BJP Mahila Morcha activists under the leadership of their State President Priya Sethi held a protest rally and demonstration at Dogra Chowk on Saturday. They were raising slogans against the failure of Government in ensuring security to women and demanding stringent laws to curb crime against them and death penalty for rapists. They also raised slogans against female feoticide and discriminatory treatment to girls in the families.
Priya Sethi, while addressing the activists, said that the crime against the women has been taking place since long and now because of the highlighting of the same by the media we are now comprehending and realizing true horrendous dimensions of the crimes against women. It is extremely sad to see crime against women and girl children taking place with regularity inspite of the enormous media highlighting. The women of the country are not safe even in national capital where very severe crimes are reported against small female children.
In every nook and corner of the country women are agitating against the crimes against females. The criminal justice system in respect of crime against women is extremely lax and soft. This country needs a very stringent and strong law against the criminals who indulge in crimes against females.” In our state 300 rape cases were registered last year but there is hardly any conviction in any case”, he added.
Demanding fast trial of all such cases which are related to crime against women, Priya Sethi said that there is dire need of taking these cases seriously and taken to logical and successful conclusion.
