SRINAGAR, Apr 27: Two ply-wood dealers were booked and fined by Legal Metrology Department Budgam wing under the supervision of Assistant Controller on them.
They were booked under Section 39 of Jammu and Kashmir Weight and Measures Act 1997 and a fine of Rs. 5000 each was recovered from them.
The manufacturers were found deliberately making ply-wood sheets of different denominations with smaller thickness than declared on the ply-wood. “For instance ply-wood sheet of thickness 6mm is made as 5mm and price is counted for 6mm,” said officials of Legal Metrology.
They said the same unfair trade practice was applied to other thickness brands also.
Moreover, the manufacturers of ply-wood were found not stamping their identification code/trade-name on the ply-board, thereby giving an impression that they are using brand name of some reputed manufacturers to hoodwink/deceive the consumer.
