People protest in GMC for delay in handing over body

JAMMU, Oct 25: Family members of a youth, who had died in a road accident, today staged a protest at Government Medical College, Jammu for alleged delay in handing over the body to them by the Hospital authorities.
According to the reports, a youth namely Sahil (18) son of Joga Ram, resident of Kaccha Talab (Bahu Fort), had received serious injuries on the night of October 23 when a scooty he was riding, got slipped in Bagh-e-Bahu area.
The injured youth succumbed to his injuries last evening in GMC Jammu and today morning, his sample was taken for COVID-19 test and the body was shifted to mortuary room of the hospital till outcome of the report.
However, the family members and relatives of the deceased youth reached GMC Jammu this afternoon and held a protest demanding body of the deceased without any delay. They ransacked the mortuary room, pelted stones and broke window panes over alleged delay in handing over the body to them.
They forcefully entered into the mortuary and took the body out of the mortuary along with them but the police intercepted them and pacified by assuring that the body will be handed over to them after postmortem.
Meanwhile, the COVID report of the deceased came negative and after conducting postmortem, the body was handed over to the protesting family members.
