VKK organizes literary programme on theatre

JAMMU, Oct 26: Viraj Kala Kendra (VKK), Jammu in collaboration with All J&K Folk Association organized a literary programme on the theme ‘Contemporary Theatre– an instrument for social change’ at Dogra Sadar Sabha, here today.
S K Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, was the chief guest and Sohail Qazmi, a social activist was the guest of honour.
Prominent Theatre personalities of Jammu including Dr Sudhir Mahajan, Madan Rangila, Baljeet Singh Raina, Rajeshwar Singh Raju, Vipan Mahajan, Romi Sharma, Rohit Bhat, T S Premee and Sanjay Rohmetra expressed their views about the worthiness of Theatre in bringing a drastic change in the society.
A short clipping of Dogri play ‘Shah- Shahni’ written and directed by Rajneesh Gupta was also presented on the occasion. Janak Khajuris, Dr Chanchal Sharma, Neelu Malvi, Pawan Verma and Tarun Charak acted brilliantly in the play. A solo performance by veteran artist of UT Santosh Sangra was also presented on the occasion.
The chief guest, in his address, laid stress that people should develop the taste of Theatre for the motivation of artists as also Theatre is a tool for social reform. Sohail Qazmi also expressed that Theatre is the need of today and a good play brings social change.
Gulzat Ahmad Bhat, president, All J&K Folk Association and Raj Bharti, chairperson of Viraj Kala Kendra were present on the occasion. Sapna Soni, a well known theatre personality, conducted the proceedings of the programme.
