SRINAGAR : Srinagar-Leh national highway, connecting the Ladakh region with the Kashmir Valley, reopened after remaining closed for two days due to avalanches.
Official sources said traffic on the national highway was stopped due to avalanches on April 26 in which six people, including three drivers and a conductor were injured at Shaitan Nallh between Zojila and Meenmarg. They were hospitalised.
There was also a threat of more avalanches because of fresh rains in the area, they said.
However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintainance of the highway, pressed sophisticated machines and men into service to put through the road.
All the vehicles, stranded on both the sides of the Zojila, were cleared till late last night.
Vehicles from sides were allowed today, they said.
This was the second time that the highway had been closed since it was reopened early this month after remaining closed for six months due to snowfall.
