JAMMU, Nov 3: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta has reiterated that his party’s commitment to bring vibrancy in governance by taking it to grass roots level has become more evident as the stage has been set for establishing District Development Councils (DDCs), the members of which will be directly elected in the Union Territory of J&K.
While addressing a meeting of senior party leaders here, today, Kavinder said that long pending demand of people for bringing 3-tier governance model in the UT of J&K will see the light of the day after the sincere and dedicated efforts of BJP leadership sitting at the helm steering the country towards unprecedented development and giving fair opportunities to one and all to flourish and prosper with dignity. He said that the new structure will include a DDC and a District Planning Committee (DPC).
Giving no weight to noise emanating from Valley-based political parties against setting up of DDCs, the former Deputy Chief Minister said that BJP’s governance, public welfare or development initiatives are never based on vote bank politics rather its leadership takes decision after considering and quantifying things on the basis of their virtue and purpose. He said that apprehensions made by Valley centric outfits (whether political or others) hold no ground as they are opposing this initiative for the sake of opposition only.
He said that by fortifying 3-tier governance the aspirations of people living in the rural hamlets could be understood in a much better way and remedial measures could be taken with pace and efficacy which is the need of the time. “Any opposition to this is unwarranted and clearly indicates that those who are against this public welfare initiative are afraid of losing their hegemony over funds and power”, he said adding BJP-led Government is well wisher of people and will leave no stone unturned to ensure that people’s interests are given first and foremost priority.
