JAMMU, Nov 3: The squads of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) as well as Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) today booked 142 erring traders dealing in fruits and vegetables and recovered Rs 2.25 lakh as penalty from them.
The checking was done by LMD and FCS&CA squads in different parts of Jammu division. The squads checked the accuracy of weighing instruments used by traders and parity of retail rates with respect to wholesale rates as reported by Horticulture Marketing and Planning Department.
Keeping in view the price rise, the Department had earlier convened a meeting with representative of wholesalers of vegetables and fruits, consumer organizations etc and fixed 40 % hike in retail trade with respect to wholesale rates for perishable commodities.
Keeping in view the agreed parameters, the departmental squads checked 992 traders dealing with fruits and vegetables and detected 142 traders violating agreed norms and booked these erring traders under relevant laws. As the violators accepted their guilt, their offences were compounded for Rs 2.25 lakh.
