KPs reject interlocutors report

JAMMU, May 24: Various organizations of Kashmiri Pandits have rejected the interlocutors report released today by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.
Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch (JKVM), which puts on record its rejection of the report said on the face of it the report seems to confirm to the leaked information about it published in media from time to time. The influence of ISI sponsored seminars and back channel conferences, which were attended by two of these interlocutors is clearly visible in the final report, a JKVM handout issued here today said.
It while criticizing the report, which said “the political settlement we propose takes into full account the deep sense of victimhood prevalent in the Kashmir Valley.” As if valley and its majority community only has the sense of victimhood. It also talks of, “Freedom from harsh laws, or laws harshly applied, and judicial delays that curb the space for legitimate dissent”; without revealing which harsh Laws were executed without requirement.
JKVM said the report has also suggested making divisive article 370 of the Constitution permanent by replacing word temporary with “special” as demanded by sectarian outfits like PDP.
It said the report goes further to suggest restrictions on the power of the Parliament to enact laws for the State and also to reduce the proportion of Central services in the State.
It said the report has recommended revisiting laws applied to the State after 1953 with or without amendment. All this clearly indicates that the team of interlocutors, as was apprehended in the beginning had come with a predetermined mind and the ground reality or the historical facts had no impact on the outcome of their exercise, it added.
The JKVM said all this is glaringly exposed by the manner in which these interlocutors have dealt with the issue of displacement of the original inhabitants of Kashmir valley that is the Kashmiri Hindus.
JKVM demands to dump the report in the dustbin of history and further suggested that scarce resources that were washed out on this wasteful exercise must be recovered from these interlocutors.
Rejecting the report PK convenor Dr Agnishekhar has expressed shock and anger over the recommendations made by interlocutors. Terming this anxiously awaited report as anti unity anti integrity and anti sovereignty, he said PK rejects this mischievous report as for being disrespectful to the plight and geo political aspirations of seven lakh KPs.
PK has appealed the people of the country in general and KPs in particular to gird up their loins to fight jointly under unified command and action against any move detrimental to national interests.
Kashmir Pandit Conference (KPC) has also strongly opposed the report and termed it against the national interests. The KPC chief Kundan Kashmiri while reacting on the report said it has compromised national interests and by recommending that article 370 be made permanent the report has hurt the sentiments of nationalist forces in the State who have been demanding its abrogation as the same article is temporary as was admitted by the then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru also, he added.
He appealed the nationalist forces to join hands and be ready for a decisive battle as report was against the national interests.
National Spokesperson PK Virender Raina while rejecting the repot said that it has compromised national interests and given rise to fissiparous tendencies in the State. This will open a new Pandora’s box where all the laws promulgated by the Centre would be reviewed there by weakening the Constitutional outreach of the country.
PK leader Ramesh Manwati has also rejected the report and appealed the community to intensify its struggle for separate homeland within valley. He said the report is one more attempt to appease the separatists as the internally displaced KPs have been totally ignored and they are left with no alternative but to struggle for separate homeland.
