Seven workshops sealed for making sweets in unhygienic condition

JAMMU, Nov 8: Food Safety wing of Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO) today sealed seven workshops of sweets for making sweets in unhygienic condition.
The action was taken by the Food Safety team of Municipal Limits Jammu headed by Assistant Commissioner, Dr Parvesh Kumar during a special drive organized on the directions of Commissioner, Drug & Food Control Organization, Shakeel-ur-Rehman in view of upcoming festival Diwali so as to check the adulteration of food items and ensure that only quality and hygienic sweets are served to the customers.
During the drive, seven workshops that were found making sweets in unhygienic condition and that without obtaining required license from the licensing authority, were sealed by the Food Safety team. The team lifted 15 samples of sweets and sent the same for analysis in Food Testing Laboratory while as 1230 kg of sweets were destroyed on the spot.
The team also seized 3.8 qunitals of ‘Khoya’ from three different premises and 14 sweets sellers/makers were challaned for processing/storing the sweets in unhygienic condition. Amongst challaned were M/s Brijinder Singh Sweet Shop and M/s Foran Singh Sweet Shop at Muthi, Agarwal Sweet Shop at Paloura, Balkrishan Sweet Shop at Lakkarmandi, M/s Mulkh Raj and M/s Romail Singh at BC Road and Ram Dass Sweets Workshop at Gangyal.
Four sweet sellers were also challaned at Jewel Chowk for storing the sweets in unhygienic condition.
