FDA Commissioner pays surprise visit to food processing units

JAMMU, Nov 11: In view of festival season and to ensure that safe and healthy food items are available to the consumers, Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), J&K, Shakeel-ur-Rehman along with teams of officers paid surprise visit to food processing/manufacturing units in Jammu.
The Commissioner accompanied by Intelligence cum Legal Cell/Designated Officers/concerned Food Safety Officers inspected manufacturing units dealing with sweets, milk and milk products, oil and spices viz. Pahalwan Manufacturing House at Sanjay Nagar, Kwality Manufacturing House at Canal Road, Mahajan Manufacturing House at Canal Road, Kailash Industry at Gangyal, Surya Milk Product at Gangyal, J&K Milk Producer Cooperative Limited at Satwari and JK Oil Industry at Gangyal.
On the spot instructions were issued by the Commissioner to the concerned FBOs for further improvements of their processing/manufacturing units. During the inspection, the concerned enforcement staff was directed to lift samples of various food items viz. Khoya, Peda, Toda Burfi, Cake, Coconut Burfi, Mustard Oil, blended edible oil, Derau Atta, Haldi Powder, Chilli Powder, Skimmed Milk Powder, water, spices etc from the manufacturing units for testing and analysis.
Moreover, the concerned enforcement staff was instructed to take cognizance against the manufacturing unit which were carrying out their activities under unhygienic condition as per provision laid down under the FSS Act and Rules made there under.
The Commissioner appealed the general public to procure food item under proper invoice and in case of any complaint with respect to quality of any food item, complaint at complaintsdfco@gmail.com/cfsjandk@gmail.com.
