Erring food business units challaned, samples lifted

JAMMU, Nov 13: Teams of Food Safety Officers inspected various food business units and lifted samples for quality check besides serving notices to erring units.
The teams, constituted by the Commissioner, Food Safety, J&K, carried out surprise checking of the manufacturing units/outlets. A team headed by Commissioner, FDA, J&K inspected Dayal House Manufacturing units/ Dayal Ice Cream & Allied Products, M/s Lovish Bakers Akhnoor Road Jammu, Ruhi Bakers Gangyal, M/s Nav Durga Sweets Industrial Estate, Gangyal with a view to ascertain as to whether these units are running in accordance with the provisions laid down in Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006 and the regulations of 2011.
The Food Safety Officers lifted the samples of raw and finished product from these units to get its testing for ensuring the quality of food items.
M/s Lovish Bakers, Akhnoor Road, Jammu has been booked under section 56 of the FSS Act 2006.
Another team, headed by Dy Commissioner Food Safety, along with Asstt Commissioner Food Safety/Food Safety Office, inspected various areas of District Jammu, including city, block Sohanjana, R S Pura and Bishnah. 15 statutory samples of various food items viz Besan Laddu (Bikano), Sohan Papri (Lovely Sweets/Kanha), Gulab Jamun (Aakash), Kaju (Great Value), Dal Aahar (Agro), Gur, Dal Masur, Barfi, Badam, Chutney, Chocolate Barfi, mango drink ( Frooti) were lifted from various Food Business Operators viz Walmart India Pvt Ltd, Toph Sherkhania, M/s Saroop Singh Karyana Shop, Airport Road, M/s Lakshmi Sweet Shop/Easy Day Airport road, Jammu, M/s Khajuria Food Malls, Aashirvaad Sweet Shop, Choudhary Sweet Shop at Mira Sahib, for checking of its quality. Three challans have also been receomended against M/s Lakshmi Sweet Shop, Chouhdary Sweet Shop and M/s Aashirvaad Sweet Shop for carrying out their activities under unhygienic condition and not mentioned Best Before date on the tray containing sweets.
Moreover one notice has been served to M/s Allegiant Mart, Air Port Road for conversion of Registration into Food License as mandated under FSS Act 2006. Also the newspaper / envelops of newspaper for wrapping the sweets/ snacks were destroyed on spot.
The general public was advised to check the Best Before date of the sweets displayed on the tray of sweets, before purchasing sweets and not to accept sweets/prepared food/ Pakora etc in the envelop of newspaper.
