LEH, Nov, 21: Following a steep rise in Coronavvirus cases in Leh district with daily reporting of more than 100 cases, Civil Society has appealed to the public to support the weeklong lockdown call in Leh from Monday.
The lockdown is voluntarily supported by Merchant Associations, transporters and other stakeholders.
Addressing a press conference here today, Ajuman Moin-ul-Islam president, Dr.Abdul Qayum flanked by other religious community heads appealed the public to extend voluntarily support to impose self restriction for a week to break the chain of virus spread. He said that Leh district is witnessing steep rise in the cases with death cases report of 3% per population whereas national death case is less than 1% which is alarming situation in Leh district and hence the public should support the call.
He added that being a private organization the Civil Society can’t enforce restriction on public. However, he appealed to the public that it is high time people should realize the grave situation in the district and impose self restriction.
Anjuman Imamiya president, Ashraf Ali Barcha said that they have been requesting the UT Administration to impose lockdown in the region but it didn’t pay any heed to it due to which situation worsened. He also requested the public to postpone their marriage ceremonies to further date and wait for the situation to improve and appealed for minimum gathering during funerals. LBA representative Tsewang said that if people don’t extend support to such step to break the chain, situation may become uncontrollable during winter.
