20 bovine animals rescued, 4 smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, May 1: Continuing its drive against the menace of bovine smuggling, Udhampur Police today rescued 20  animals, arrested four top smugglers and seized three  vehicles in separate cases. With this, Udhampur Police led by Incharge SSP Benam Tosh rescued 106 bovine animals and arrested 25  bovine smugglers in 13 separate cases within last one month only.
Reports said that in the wee  hours of today, Police  laid a surprise naka on  National Highway near Tikri and intercepted a truck bearing registration No. JK03B-9496. During thorough search of the truck, 11 bovine animals which were being illegally transported towards Kashmir valley, were  rescued and the vehicle got seized. The bovine smuggler namely  Mohd. Irfan of  Achabal, Anantnag was arrested on the spot.
In another  surprise naka near Jakheni, Police  intercepted two  Mahindra vehicles. During  search of the vehicles three  bovine animals were rescued  from one vehicle and six from other one.  Both the bovine smugglers namely Mukhtyar Ahmed of  Darsoopura, .R.S.Pura and  Mohd. Arif of Nagrota Jammu, were arrested.
Udhampur Police also arrested one absconding bovine smuggler against whom a case was registered at Police Station  Udhampur few days earlier in connection with illegal smuggling of bovine animals towards Kashmir valley.
