Cop detained under PSA

JAMMU, May 1: A police constable, who had opened firing on his rivals with his official weapon, an AK-47 rifle and then fled away before being arrested from a forest area, has been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Mohammad Saleem, the constable, had been posted as Personal Security Officer (PSO) with Gursevak Singh, a leader of Socialist Democratic Party.
He had opened firing with the official weapon along with his two sons over a property dispute with his two rivals on April 13 at Bari Brahmana in Samba district. After the firing, he had escaped and was arrested by police on April 18 from a forest area. The AK-47 rifle had been recovered from him.
The constable’s two sons, who were also involved in the firing, were still absconding.
Police said soon after the Deputy Commissioner, Samba issued the PSA detention warrant of the constable, he was shifted to Ambphalla jail by a Bari Brahmana police station team headed by SHO Inspector Arun Jamwal.
In addition to Bari Brahmana firing, the constable was also involved in 9 other cases of crime, police said.
