Diabetes meet held at Kishtwar

KISHTWAR, May 3: A scientific Diabetes Update programme for medical professionals was organized here today, the highlight of which was a guest faculty lecture by Dr Jitendra Singh, renowned Diabetologist, National Professor of Diabetes & Chairman National Diabetes Scientific Committee (RSSDI).
Making an evidence based presentation aided by power point projection, Dr Jitendra Singh spoke on the subject of “Current Guidelines for diagnosis and management of Diabetes in Pregnancy”.
He said the Diabetes fraternity across the world is presently focussing on research on Diabetes in Pregnancy with the objective that the unborn child growing up inside the mother’s womb is not allowed to inherit even a fraction of diabetic tendency from its diabetic mother. That is why, very soon India is going to start a special training course for doctors on this subject under the auspices of DIPSI (Diabetes in pregnancy Study Group India) and he himself has been appointed as one of the Core Committee members for the purpose, he added.
Dr Singh said, “Unlike other cases of Diabetes, in pregnancy, the control of Blood Sugar level ought to be much more strict with lower target levels to ensure healthy growth of the foetus particularly during first three months of pregnancy.
He said that DIPSI advocates Blood sugar test for every pregnant woman visiting a hospital or dispensary irrespective of whether she is fasting or non-fasting and irrespective of the stage of her pregnancy.
The lecture was followed by a lively question-answer session in which medical specialists and Doctors from Kishtwar, Doda and Bhaderwah participated.
Earlier in the day, Dr Singh also held a Diabetes awareness programme cum detection camp for general public at Tourist Reception Center Kishtwar. During the camp,Dr Jitendra Singh did free check-up of patients while there was also facility for free Blood test and free medicine.
