Custodial death of Sarabjit invites more condemnations

JAMMU, May 3: The custodial death of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh in Pakistan jail has invited more condemnations by various organizations and individuals who also criticized the UPA Government for its week foreign policy.
Expressing grief over the custodial death of Sarabjit Singh, former Minister and PCC general secretary R S Chib said that the murder was committed and planned by Pakistan Government to please the communal elements in the neighbouring country where polls are being held soon. In a statement, Mr Chib appealed the Government of India to adopt a tough diplomatic posture against Pakistan in future. Appreciating the Government decision of providing ex-gratia relief to family of Sarabjit Singh, Mr Chib demanded that same ex-gratia amount should be sanctioned for the family of Chamel Singh, who was also tortured and murdered in Pakistan jail.
JKNPP Chairman and MLA Harshdev Singh has urged upon the Union Government to shed off its inhibitions and adopt tough postures against Pakistan for the latter’s highly disdainful, criminal and preposterous acts in persistently assaulting India’s national pride and honour. He said that the gruesome murder of Sarabjit Singh should be an eye-opener for the Indian Government, which has been through and through pursuing a submissive and meek approach despite the highly pernicious onslaughts of Pakistan.
Urging upon the GoI to adopt tough postures, Mr Singh said that India needs to take up the said issues at International forums, agitate them in international court of Justice, take measures to declare Pak a rogue and terrorist nation and further go the whole hog in mounting pressure on Pakistan to refrain from such mis-adventures in future.
BJP Mahila Morcha activists under Jammu District president Parveen Arora organised “signature campaign” at Kachi Chawni Chowk on Friday.
More than three thousand people from all walks of life, including senior citizens, women and students penned down their signatures.
On the occasion, BJP State president Jugal Kishore Sharma said it was most unfortunate that the Government of India was adopting complete silence over the atrocities and killings of Indian citizens in Pakistani jails. The cold blooded murder of Sarabjit Singh, which has shook the whole nation, could have been averted had the Congress-led UPA Government taken the past incidents seriously, he said
BJP Mahila Morcha president Priya Sethi alleged that the UPA Government was now shedding crocodile tears on death of Sarabjit Singh while Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh did nothing when family of the bereaved was running from pillar to post for help.
Jammu Regional Council of the Communist Part of India held a protest demonstration near Press Club of Jammu and asked Government of India to ensure security to all Indian prisoners in Pak jails. They raised slogans seeking Justice for Sarabjit Singh. Led by Dr G S Charak, the protesters also demanded compensation and rehabilitation of all such families, which have become victim of Pakistan’s vengeful policies.
Activists of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad expressed their strong resentment over the Sarabjit Singh episode by holding a protest demonstration at Jammu University Fountain Plaza. They torched a Pakistani flag and also raised slogans against the neighbouring country as well as UPA Government. The protest demonstration was addressed by Manish Chohan, and others who alleged that UPA Government’s weak policies were responsible for hostile activities by Pakistan.
To pay its homage to Sarabjit Singh, the Jammu Mahanagar unit of ABVP, led by Arun Prabhat Singh took out a candle march at Gole Market.
Expressing grief over the murder of Sarabjit Singh, State unit of Janta Dal (Secular) has said that the Government of India should snap diplomatic ties with Pakistan and take this case of custodial death in the International Court.
A meeting of Janta Dal (Secular) was held under the chairmanship of Mast Nath Yogi who also criticized the Central Government for not taking ant action against the Chinese incursion.
In Udhampur, district president Shree Ram Sena, Rahul Khokher paid rich tribute to the Sarabjit Singh and demanded stern action against Pakistan for its rogue activities.
BJYM activists gathered near Raj Theater and torched the effigy of Pakistan condemning murder of Sarabjit Singh.
JKNPP also condemned the murder of Sarabjit Singh by organizing a protest demonstration and torching Pak flag at Slathia Chowk Udhampur.
Naïve Heeds Trust condoled the death of Sarabjit Singh and prayed for peace to the departed soul. A condolence meeting in this regard was held.
Ajay Gupta, Principal ‘NITL’ Higher Secondary School Udhampur, and Sudeshwar, Principal of Dream Land Public School also condoled the death of Sarabjit Singh.
Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) paid tributes to Sarabjit Singh by organizing a condolence meeting under the chairmanship of State secretary Sumeet Mangotra. A two-minute silence was observed in the meet for peace to the departed soul.
